Description

The course does this through up-to-date studies and scientific findings, which inform us of exactly what dogs are saying to us through a variety of signals, facial expressions, body movements and vocal communications, and teaches us how we can alter our own behaviour to act and react to this input in ways that are meaningful to the dog.

What You'll Learn from the Canine Communication Course

To understand how dogs communicate, you need first to put yourself in their shoes/paws. Module 1 explains how dogs perceive the world around them, including their work senses and dispelling some common misconceptions.

Module 2 of the Canine Communication Diploma Course dives straight into the core of the subject: communication, and how we can improve our ability to communicate cross-species. Differences in breed can also affect the way in which he we communicate with dogs, so this is covered here also, along with basic, common cross-breed canine communication.

As with non-verbal human communication, you can tell a lot about what a dog wants or is feeling through their facial expressions, though these can be misinterpreted. Module 3 of the course goes into further detail about what these expressions can mean.

When a dog is feeling stressed or anxious about something, you will find that they display what are known as ‘calming signals’. Recognising these, often misinterpreted, signals are an important part of effective communication between humans and dogs, and are described in Module 4.

Again, just as in human relationships, body language is an important tool for non-verbal communication between man and dog and, just as in human relationships, these can often be misunderstood. As a huge part of canine communication, Module 5 teaches students how to read and understand canine body language and how to respond with our own body language, for effective communication.

Although not as much is known about canine emotions, compared with other forms of communication, in Module 6, the Canine Communication Diploma Course provides students with the most up-to-date findings of what is known. Also in this chapter, vocal communication will be discussed. This includes common communication types between breeds and how certain breeds may use vocal communication in alternative ways.

Through study and observation, you should now have a much-improved understanding of dogs. Module 7 teaches students how to use this information to alter how you act and react to what dogs are telling you through their behaviours. Students will be shown how to show specific signs to approach and communicate with individual dogs in a meaningful way.

Dogs have certain needs, and in the Module 8 of the Canine Communication Diploma Course, students are not just informed of these but also details how to recognise if a dog is suffering with a problem and how to recognise if he/she is trying to tell you about it.

Who Would Benefit from the Course?

The Canine Communication Course is of benefit to anyone who has regular contact with dogs. This could be as an owner, who would like to understand their pet better, and vice versa or in a dog/animal-related profession where this information could prove invaluable, such as for vets and dog trainers.
